On 16 May 2015 in Wrocław, C&M’s team takes part in the 3rd edition of the Charity Race for Companies.
This race has already become an annual charity event which aims to raise money for treatment and rehabilitation of children affected by severe malformations.

A team of four C&M’s employees must cover the distance of 20 km in a 4 × 5 km relay race.
However, not only the sports competition is the main objective of this race -the objective is also promoting the idea of helping those in need and having fun together among other companies and teams.

The Polish section of the international conference “The Translation and Localization Conference” will take place on March 29th in Warsaw. This year's topic is “Experts at Work”.

Bartłomiej Dymek, a translator and reviewer at C&M, will be hosting the “Work Environment Optimization — Faster, Easier, and More Efficiently” on that day. Anyone working with temporary files or uses specialized software tools sometimes must face the challenges of workflows and procedures that could be improved, streamlined, or automated. This applies both to the operations within the job environment, as well as managing contacts with clients and vendors.

During the conference, we will be there if you have any questions or just want to chat.

Terminology control in inflected languages is a big challenge. The market offers a lot of tools for checking terminology but  they will only detect the terms in their basic grammar form.

C&M has come up with a solution to this problem. It works in 95% of cases. At present, the tool works for the English-Polish and German-Polish. Another advantage is the operating speed of nearly 600,000 operations per second. It means that it takes less than a minute to check terminology in a 100-page text with a glossary containing 1000 terms.

The program supports TTX, TMX, XLF, and SDLXLIFF file formats and glossaries in the MS Excel format, and MultiTerm termbases.

Patents are one of the most specialized and difficult kind of medical texts. They are written by experts working in a very narrow field, and describe technologies and products that are usually prototypes, which means that the suitable terminology does not exist in the target language, or is known only to a small group of experts.

C&M has already translated 17 medical patents from English into Polish, including texts focusing on spinal cord injuries, endopeptidase activity detection, migraine treatment, and other subjects.

UNINT (Università degli Studi Internazionali) of Rome and C&M Localization Center have signed a letter of intent regarding their partnership in the Leonardo da Vinci project. Under this initiative, the graduates of the University will undergo internships in the field of technical translation and localization project management. The first internship as part of this initiative has just begun.

The cooperation is mutually beneficial to both UNINT and C&M. The University gained a reliable partner who provides a proven and well-designed internship program, while our company may benefit from the assistance of foreign interns and increased its international recognition.

On October 25–26, 2014, the Philological School of Higher Education and C&M are jointly organizing the second edition of “The Translator and the Computer” conference in Wrocław.

During the conference, C&M’s employees will be running 3 workshops. The participants will also have a chance to meet our representatives face-to-face at the conference organizer's stand. We invite all the translators, as well as everyone interested in cooperating with us, to join the conference and visit our stand.

C&M is preparing a series of articles on various aspects of good practices in software localization. The series will start with an article on project management. We are also preparing articles on correctness of technical Polish, language standards used in creation of technical specifications, and quality control.

We hope that our articles will help everyone willing to improve their translation skills, find out more about the existing standards, and get to know the practical side of localization. The articles will be written for both translators and persons dealing with translation project management.

The 17th International Conference of the European Association for Machine Translation (EAMT) took place on 16–18 of June 2014 in Dubrovnik.

As every year, the agenda of the conference included abstract and poster sessions divided into three main topics: research works, research in the field of SMT usage, and miscellaneous studies.

Both poster and oral presentations were very interesting and gave the opportunity to get acquainted with the current state of knowledge concerning the algorithms used in statistical machine translation as well as the quality control methods and other issues related to the practical application of these algorithms.

Participation in the conference was a very crucial step towards improving the quality of the SMT engine used in C&M as we have received answers to many questions and obtained a lot of material for further experimentations.

The first month of summer has been a month of charity work at C&M.

At the beginning of June, we started cooperation with the Wrocław Pantomime Theatre. As with the Wrocław Philharmonic, our cooperation includes free-of-charge translations. With this collaboration, we would like to facilitate the promotion of this distinguished Wrocław theatre in the international market, and bring the theatre's work closer to art enthusiasts from abroad.

On June 7th, in a picturesque village of Gałów, C&M’s employees, in cooperation with the local horse stable, organized a picnic for children from the House of St. Francis Community Center in Legnica. The event was filled with attractions. As part of this event, children also received small gifts that made them feel like actors in a Western movie. This day will certainly stay in the memory of the children and C&M’s employees who supported the event.

C&M offers machine translation, delivered with the use of a proprietary system that is independent from global MT providers. Our unique solution comprises 4 co-existing components:

1. A proprietary program for corpora storage and processing.
2. An open-source program for data preparation and translation model creation.
3. An open-source program for SMT training and translation.
4. A proprietary program for both pre- and postprocessing of the input and output SMT material.

Working together, these components produce machine translations of high quality. We have also developed a system for quick evaluation of both “raw” and post-edited machine translations. The solutions contribute to shorter turnaround time of services and reduction of costs without compromising the quality of translation.
