We would like to inform you that C&M Localization Center has successfully passed an audit which confirmed the company’s compliance with the PN-EN 15038:2006 standard.

During the audit, which took place on October 17th 2012, no deviation from the norm was to be reported and it was confirmed that all required improvements were reached. This means that C&M perfectly meets the only existing quality standard in the industry. The fifth edition of the Translation and Localization Market in Poland took place on October 6 and 7 in Warsaw. Numerous and very interesting presentations were given during the conference on topics such as the correctness of the Polish language, the development of computer aided translation tools, localization project management, the common mistakes and pitfalls in the localization process made by translators and developers and machine translation (MT). C&M’s CEO, Michał Tyszkowski, PhD, delivered a presentation entitled „Jakoś tłumaczę kontra jakość tłumaczeń” (The Quantity of Translations vs. the Quality of Translations).The quality of dedicated to the widely recognized issues related to the quality of translations. The first edition of the “Świat dla Młodych“(World for the Young) scholarship scheme granted the scholarship award to two very linguistically gifted students – the first one from a middle and the second one from a secondary school. We are very pleased of their success and are hoping that our scholarship will help them both in winning other awards and develop their interests. On the 25th August, the official inauguration of Centrum Localization C&M’s new office took place at 19 Parkowa Street in Wroclaw.

The festivities began with a cocktail party in the backyard of the company’s new office. Most of the company’s employees and their partners were present. The atmosphere during the party was great as was the weather which emphasized the beauty of Szczytnicki Park neighborhood and made the outdoor meal a particularly pleasant moment.

On June 23, in Wroclaw, C&M Localization Center organized a social meeting combined with a paintball match. Two teams of 6 players made up of our colleagues, were fighting passionately, and the team led by Mariusz Hawryłkiewicz, won the match. After the battle, the winning team was presented with their prize, and all the participants had an afternoon barbecue. All the players were in great moods, during the battle and after it. On April 20 2012, C&M found itself among the signatories of the Diversity Charter. Along with the Robotyka portal, a website dedicated to robotics, C&M has developed the Robotics Glossary. The glossary is available online at the slownik.robotyka.com or at the robotyka.com portal. At present, the glossary contains 800 terms from the field of robotics and control engineering. Furthermore, it will be fed with new terms following a terminology extraction procedure performed by C&M after publication of the articles on the portal. The purpose of the project is to create a database of valid terminology translations from such sophisticated and quickly developing areas as robotics and control engineering. Our company gains also a chance to dispel the stereotypes that translations in the fields of robotics and control engineering are too complicated as for terminology to be outsourced.

The “Translation and Localization Conference” took place in Warsaw on April 28-29. It was the first edition of the new conference organized by Localize.pl. During the conference, CEO, Michał Tyszkowski, PhD, participated in the discussion entitled „Kontrola jakości - czym jest jakość tekstu z perspektywy zleceniodawcy, jak obiektywnie oceniać jakość tłumaczeń?” (“Quality Control - What Does Text Quality Mean for a Customer, and How To Objectively Assess the Quality of translations?”). The discussion, with Marta Bartnicka from IBM Poland among other participants, covered different aspects of the translation quality control, such as automation prospects, comparability of texts representing different quality levels, the weights of various kinds of errors and quality improvement methods. The animated discussion engaged a lot of participants in the conference, as the translation quality is a very subjective matter, and the methods for its control are still controversial.

On April 20-21, the Philological School of Higher Education and C&M Localization Center jointly organized “The Translator and the Computer” conference in Wrocław. During this two-day event, many interesting presentations were held, some of the speakers presented their research findings on the usage of widely available and specialized translation software. Moreover, the features characterizing the work of professional translation agencies along with their cooperation with freelance translators were addressed. C&M was represented by CEO, Michał Tyszkowski, PhD, who presented his paper on complex translation project management entitled „Zawartość tłumaczenia w tłumaczeniu - czyli projekt tłumaczeniowy jako całość” (“How Much Translation in Translation? - Translation Project As a Whole”), and Bartłomiej Dymek who explained the functionalities of the ApSIC Xbench application, an excellent and free tool that renders the assurance of high quality translations more simple, during his presentation entitled “Tłumaczenie i kontrola jakości tłumaczenia z wykorzystaniem programu ApSIC Xbench” (Translation and Quality Control Using ApSIC Xbench Software). The conference became a field of discussions between the academic and the business world, as well as between freelance translators and translation agencies due to their different points of view. Nevertheless, the conference was a huge success, as it revealed to both the translators and the academics the importance of IT technologies in technical translations, and the fact that the future of translation lies in the development of a close man-computer cooperation.
